Wales Hot 100 Company - 2005 Quality Counts

August 2007

01/08/2007
Thank you to everyone again who raised money for our sponsored toddle last month. We received a certificate which we have proudly displayed on the door. We raised a grand total of £960.65 with our percentage of £255.42 going towards our outdoor fund.

We have also raised an amazing amount of money for our outdoor suit fund and have a bit of money left over to spend on a few new bikes as well. We have purchased a total of 30 suits in various sizes so all the children from aged 1-5 years can play outside when the weather is unsettled or bad. I must admit the children look really cute and cosy in them ready for action.  The suits came from Little Trekkers and cover the whole body with a lovely fleece lined hood.  They have velcro straps to alter the arm, waist and leg size making them more versatile. We are reminding parents over the next few months to make sure there are wellies at the nursery as well.

Staff have been busy updating courses.  We have attended Paediatric first aid training and listening and communicating with young children this month. Staff have also been busy completing an open college network course level 2 in infection control. This has involved written work and practical work on how to ensure standards are kept high in areas of hygiene such as the correct hand washing technique, disposing of wate, cleaning of all areas and how to stop the spread of infection.  This has been really worthwhile and has been implemented around the nursery.

We are still working towards our Quality Counts acreditation and are now well underway.  As you may remember from previous newsletters this award is for nurseries working higher than the national minimum standards and has not yet been handed out to anyone in the Cardiff area.  We hope to be the first nursery in the area to receive this recognition!

Our fun day was a big success with bright sunshine all day!  We had a great time with all the activities.  The children especially enjoyed playing in our sensory garden with our  outdoor sandpit and large digging patches. Parents were also pleased to meet our kitchen staff to sample some of our delicious food we offer the children and chat about food queries. Staff were also on hand to chat to parents and show them the children's assessments and scrap books.
