Activities

All groups will have a daily, weekly and monthly planning sheet following a set topic for the month. All planning is available for you to see what activities your child will be doing and all topics and celebrations are displayed too. Every month there will be an 'At home' sheet for you to follow so you can reinforce aspects being taught in nursery.

Curriculum and Play Benefits

The curriculum for the over 2s is based around the desirable learning outcomes. Where we aim to enrich the child's development in the folliwng areas.

However most of the learning is carried out, by providing different play opportunities and new experiences. To the young child, play is learning and so learning is fun!

Play is self-paced and freer than formal learning, but that does not mean it lacks structure or familiar elements. often play is simply repeating the same task over and over again, but although it may need little thought, it is not pointless. practise turns the behaviour into a skill and makes it automatic. At other times play is exploring the new, finding out how things work and what needs to be done. Both sorts of play are essential. It is not only the toys, books or the physical environment that is most important to the child, it is the child's social environment that really counts.

This is why our staff here at Little Cherubs Day Care Nursery interact with children on a day-to-day, minute to minute basis that makes a real difference. Our qualified and experienced staff are dedicated to the development of the babies and young children in our care and the children's play experiences are based around their developmental needs. Staff will provide activities to foster the children's increasing desire to do things for him/herself. We will have a mixture of child chosen and adult led activities, and will always allow for, and encourage, determination and experimentation.

A Typical Day At Little Cherubs Day Care Nursery

The nursery opens at 8:00am, and our team of friendly staff are ready to welcome your child into nursery. Structured activities are set up to keep children occupied until breakfast time, and the nursery is made to feel as homely and comfortable as possible.

Children are then split into their key-worker groups, ready to take part in a variety of fun-packed activities, these may include anything from sand and water, cooking, story and circle-time, outdoor play or creative activities. (All groups have set routines to guide them through the nursery day).

Lunch is served between 11:30am and 12:00noon; staff sit with the children to encourage social skills at mealtimes. Our chef prepares fresh food to menu guidelines provided by an expert nutritionist who specialises in the dietary requirement of pre-school children. Menus are both fun and seasonal to continually simulate the children's imaginations. Fresh drinking water is readily available to children at all times of the day.

Following lunch the children have quiet activities, and for those children who need a sleep the children have their own individual sleep mats in a quiet dedicated room. Children join their key-workers for afternoon activities, which have been carefully planned in order to give your child a varied and interesting day.

After children have sat down to tea, further fun structured activities and outdoor activities are provided to keep your child busy until home time. Daily record sheets are given to parents at the end of each nursery day, to keep you informed on what activities your child has taken part in and what they have had to eat and drink throughout the day.
